DAMAR- DAVE & MARGARET
MUSIC COMPANY
Once upon a time, my dream was to be a professional musical arranger. I did all the things necessary including writing and arranging my own songs, assembling the singers to record them, and submitting the songs and recordings to the music publishers. After a couple of years, I figured out that I could just as well write and arrange for my own choirs and remain a choir director...so I did. Many of these songs/arrangements have been used by my choirs over the past twenty years. Listen to the songs below. They are good recordings.
What do you want to do when you grow up? I think I have spent my entire life asking myself this question and trying all of the many artistic endeavors that interest me. From 1986 to 1991, Margaret and I started our own music publishing company. I wrote the songs and arrangements and she produced them on the computer. This was quite a feat considering that she doesn't really have any training in music. But, she is a smart one, and made that sheet music look as professional as any you will find out there. We acquired a Los Angeles business license, and we were off.
Whenever I completed new original song arrangements, I would pull together the best voices I had available to me in my Choir at Nogales HS and record the arrangements at the now defunct MUSIC STORE RECORDING STUDIO in Walnut. In all, we probably recorded 20-25 original songs and arrangements. Although DAMAR did not prove to be a long lasting venture, the music is still here, recorded and ready to share. Some of the people who recorded with me over the years were Bo Eder (drums), Francine Stewart (piano), Don Cloud (piano), Linda Atherton, my sister (1st Soprano), Doug Kuhl (bass), myself (tenor) and a few dozen choir kids from the mighty Nogales High School Chamber Singers. Enjoy these songs and arrangements. You may recognize a few, as I have occasionally used them for my own choirs at Nogales, Diamond Bar and Brea-Olinda High Schools. I will continue to add songs as they become available to me.
