The Joys Of A Real Theatre!

When Doug and I moved to Diamond Bar High School after 19 at Nogales HS, it was with mixed feelings.  We had always loved our kids at Nogales, but the lack of a theatre was a real bummer.  Diamond Bar not only boasted a wonderful Performing Arts Center, but more wonderful kids to go with it. I remember walking though the theatre soon after I was hired and realizing it was mine.....in a manner of speaking.  We put on some pretty wonderful shows in that theatre, and I owe a lot to the kids in that first year for making us feel so welcome.

I was just wondering when you were on your last year at Diamond Bar, how come you moved to Brea Olinda after? Was there any particular reason?

To be perfectly honest, I did not get along well with the administration there. We always seemed to be at odds with each other as much as I tried to make it work. I think I need a certain amount of freedom to be an effective teacher and person. I felt that Diamond Bar was stifling me to a great extent, and consequently the longer I stayed there, the less happy I was. My last year there was 2004-5. The kids were great. They always are.

well i enjoyed you as my teacher the four years i was in choir and still have get memories that will always be with me forever. the things i learned will be with me forever. Being choir had made me be less shy and open up more and be myself and not care what others think. i think choir and the choir staff is what made high school all that much more fun and all the good friends i made as well i sure do miss choir and think it all went by way to fast i still have some of the dresses and choir shirts and all the pictures of all 6 choirs each year as they changed and worked hard to make it the best each and every year. you and dbs choir staff and friends i made will always have a special place in my heart forever.

Oh I see, I'm currently in Marquis at Diamond Bar High School, 2010 was the first year for choir for me and I'm going to become a senior next year, I really enjoy it, sadly next year will be my final year though. :( I would truly have enjoyed to be in your class when you were here since you honestly seem like a very nice director who gets along well with your students haha, but Breitag is also a great director too nonetheless. I can understand how the administration doesn't get along with us currently too, but I think it's more based on how our economy is not doing so well, so they're more strict on fees and etc. If you don't mind me asking, Breitag wasn't usually open to our ideas this year such as song choices I guess, we were suppose to do a fire theme this year, but it ended up being sort of random songs, she seems to be more into the traditional style and from what I've heard she doesn't very much like props...,so I was wondering if there's any way I can get her to open up to our ideas more and at least consider them? I would really like to try something new. :) Anyways, I very much appreciate that you brought show choir to Diamond Bar and I'm glad I'm following a legacy that you and Mr. Kuhl had started! :)

Mr. Willert, that first year was one heck of a roller coaster ride, The name change from Encore to Marquis. My freshman year we only really placed twice at Arcadia (beating Nogales) and at Fullerton. But then you came with gold sequins and tie-dye spandex and we placed everywhere we went, sometimes first! Then the next two years we placed every where again and even more firsts! except for that Too perfect comment but lets not go there. Any way I'm rambling through my walk through memory lane. I just want you to know that you have seriously inspired me to be restricted by the limits and bounds imagined or real, self imposed or told. I am able to get to where I am today thanks to your inspiration and what you taught me.

As far as the administrations concern...while I was there I always thought it was peachy but now looking back I do see what you mean.
